Due to Mike Swanson’s schedule conflict, we need to re-schedule his talk at later time. For the March 2 club meeting, we are going to discuss spring and summer start up preparation for koi and pond.
Because of the atypical and warm winter, it is tempting to start the pond early. But this time of year could also be a peculiar time for koi. Due to the large air and water temperature swings, weak koi immune system and less effective biological filtration system, sickness and fatality rates of koi are typically much higher in spring than any other times of year. Female koi also tend to spawning in the spring and this could cause water quality and health issues.
In this club meeting, members will share their experiences on the spring and summer start up. Topics include:
1. Prepare and clean the pond
2. When to move koi from indoor to outdoor
3. How to kick start nitrifying bacteria
4. Parasite treatments
5. How and what to feed
6. Minimize female koi spawning issue
7. Any questions and issues you may have
